Why Hōcha
Some days ask everything of you. Hōcha is the pause in between — roasted Japanese green tea and real Madagascan vanilla, whisked into a latte that is creamy, toasty and quietly sweet.
About 20mg of caffeine a cup — clear and steady, gentle enough for the afternoon.
Spoon, whisk, pour. Ninety seconds that feel like yours.
Toasted chestnut, warm caramel, gentle woodsmoke. Creamy, never bitter.

Hōjicha (ho-jee-cha)
Hōjicha is Japanese green tea that has been roasted. The heat turns the leaves from green to amber — and the cup from sharp to smooth.
After harvest the leaves are roasted until amber — drawing out caramelised, nutty notes and softening any bitterness.
Hōjicha is naturally lower in caffeine than coffee or matcha. Ours is about 20mg a cup.
We grind it to a fine powder and blend it with Madagascan vanilla. No steeping, no timers.
Where it fits
Keep your morning espresso if you love it. Hōcha is for the moments you want clarity without the edge.

Caffeine figures are typical per-serving values and vary by recipe and brew. Hōcha: about 20mg per 2.5g serving. Coffee: NHS guidance gives around 100mg for a mug of instant and 140mg for a mug of filter coffee. Matcha: a typical 2g serving.

Our founding batch is being made now and posts in November. Reviews from our first customers will live here — honest, unedited, and yours to write.

From the founder
I made Hōcha for the version of me who was running on coffee and running on empty. A small ritual that worked with me, not against me.
I started making it for myself — weighing the powder, whisking it in the bowl, pouring it slowly over warm milk. Those few minutes became the whole point: a pause in the day rather than another thing to rush.

The founding batch
Three hundred pouches in our first small batch, posted by Friday 6 November.

Toasty and mellow — toasted chestnut, warm caramel and a gentle woodsmoke, softened by Madagascan vanilla. Smoother and far less bitter than matcha.
A little. About 20mg per serving (one teaspoon, 2.5g) — roughly a fifth of a mug of instant coffee. Use two teaspoons and it's about 40mg.
Both are Japanese green tea powders. Matcha is shade-grown and unroasted — vivid green, grassy and higher in caffeine. Hōjicha is roasted — amber, nutty and naturally gentler.
About 30. Each 75g pouch makes roughly 30 lattes at one teaspoon (2.5g), or 15 stronger ones at two.
Whisk one teaspoon with a splash of hot water until smooth, then top with 200ml of steamed milk. For iced, pour the whisked base over ice and cold milk.
Many people do. It does contain about 20mg of caffeine, so if you're sensitive, enjoy it earlier in the day or try half a teaspoon for a lighter cup.
Any. Oat is the creamiest; whole milk is classic; almond and coconut are lovely iced.
Lightly, with coconut sugar — under 1g of sugars per serving. Add a little more if you like it sweeter.
Yes. Every ingredient is plant-based.
